About Leap Card

Leap Card is the new way to pay for travel around Dublin and between Wexford and Dublin. You can use it on Wexford Bus, Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and Commuter Rail services.

Getting your Leap Card

You can purchase a Leap Card Online at www.leapcard.ie or at Leap Card agents. In the Wexford Area these include:

  • The Bus Stop Shop, Templeshannon, Enniscorthy.
  • Gwalia Stores, Main Street, Gorey.
  • Selskar Book Shop (School & Office Supplies), Selskar Street, Wexfor

In addition, there are over 400 ticket agents throughout Dublin, including the Mechanic on Duty beside UCD.

For a Child Leap Card you can logon to www.childleapcard.ie .  For Children aged 4 to 15 inclusive these can be ordered online.  Between the ages of 16 to 18 a personalised Child Leap Card is required.  Please download and complete the form from www.childleapcard.ie and bring it with a photograph and photographic ID in person to Wexford Bus or one of the other designated locations for authorization.  Please read all details carefully on the Child Leap Card website.

For a Student Leap Card go to www.studentleapcard.ie or apply on campus.  Please note that you will only be able to get the Student Leap Card rates with a Leap Student Travel Card.  An example of this card is shown below:

Topping up your Leap Card

You can top up your Leap Card in Leap Card agents, or on Wexford Bus services by 5, 10, 20 or 50. Present your card and the cash to the driver and ask to top up by the desired amount.

Using your Leap Card on Wexford Bus

Leap Card can now be used on the Wexford to Dublin City & Airport Route to purchase:

  • Single journey tickets using the Travel Credit balance on your Leap Card.  The following special single fares are available to Leap Card users travelling to/from Dublin City & Airport.

  • 2 journey tickets using the Travel Credit balance on your Leap Card.  The following special two journey fares are available to Leap Card users travelling to/from Dublin City & Airport.  Note this ticket is valid for one month from date of first use and can be used twice in either direction.

  • Weekly tickets using the Travel Credit balance on your card or using cash to load the ticket onto your card. Leap Card weekly tickets cost the same as the cash weekly ticket.  Tickets are for 10 journeys to/from the city within 7 days of issue.
  • Flexi 10 tickets using the Travel Credit balance on your card or using cash to load the ticket onto your card.  There are Leap Adult Flexi 10 tickets and Leap Student Flexi 10 tickets.  Tickets are for 10 journeys in either direction to/from the city.  This ticket is valid for one year.

How do I purchase a single journey ticket on Wexford Bus using my Leap Card?

  • Present your Leap Card to the driver and request a Leap Single ticket to your chosen destination.
  • Place your Leap Card onto the Leap Card validator. The driver will then deduct your fare from your Travel Credit and your ticket will be issued to your Leap Card.
  • Remove your Leap card when advised to do so.

Note: All passengers travelling with Wexford Bus must have sufficient credit on their Leap Card for their journey. Wexford Bus cannot carry passengers who do not have enough Travel Credit for their journey. Remember, you can also top up your cards Travel Credit on the bus.


How do I purchase a Leap weekly ticket or Leap Flexi 10 ticket on Wexford Bus with my Leap Card?

  • Present your Leap Card to the driver and request a Leap Weekly ticket to your chosen destination.
  • Let the driver know how you would like to pay for your ticket i.e. Cash or Travel Credit
    • If paying by Cash, give the driver the fare in cash. Place your Leap Card onto the Leap Card validator when advised to do so and your ticket will be issued to your Leap Card.  A message saying Ticket Issued & Used will appear to denote that the validity period has commenced.
    • If paying using Travel Credit on your card, place your Leap Card onto the Leap Card validator. The driver will then deduct your fare from your Travel Credit and your ticket will be issued to your Leap Card. A message saying Ticket Issued & Used will appear to denote that the validity period has commenced.
  • For the remainder of the validity of the ticket, present the Leap Card to the Leap Card Validator as you board the bus. Listen out for the beep which records that your ticket has been successfully used.

Registering a Leap Card

Registering your Leap Card means no one can use your card’s Travel Credit once you’ve reported it lost or stolen.

You will also be able to view your card history and buy Travel Credit. Register your card on www.leapcard.ie

  • Your Leap Card will be protected against loss or theft
  • Once you register your card you don’t need to complete an online form for every online Top-Up
  • You can view your card history online
  • You can manage additional Leap Cards through your account (e.g. your child’s Leap Card)
